Editor's Field Notes ~ Nov/Dec 2007:

Shifting gears post-2007 Adventure Travel World Summit, we’ve traveled to South America for the International Forum on Ecotourism and Adventure Travel and to Europe for World Travel Mart, all while setting the table for a productive 2008 and 2009 (ATTA’s team strategic planning retreat is Dec. 12-15 in Seattle).Doyle Photo

From the Summit, our most recent travels, and from the steady flow of feedback received in the past 90 days at the ATTA, the adventure travel industry’s “voice” is beginning to be heard within the overall travel and leisure market. Word also has it that the ATTA and its membership is beginning to capture the attention of decision makers within influential circles, which bodes well for initiatives currently underway at the ATTA.

To help to maintain this momentum, please get your calendars ready and note special dates and events where you can engage in the continued development of a more cohesive adventure travel “community”.  In particular, please set aside time for the ATTA’s Sept. 4-7 2008 Adventure Travel Summit- South America and for the 2008 Adventure Travel World Summit currently scheduled for mid-October (TBA – negotiations for location and dates underway). Additionally, for ATTA Members and prospective members, we provide a year-at-glance (2008) schedule of the increasingly popular Members Only Tune-In Webinar Series, plus the publishing and editorial submission dates for AdventureTravelNews™, as well as other industry events.

You may wish to brew a hot cup of tea as this installment of ATN is comprehensive – from the resounding standing ovation Earthwatch Founder Brian Rosborough received following his delivery of the keynote (text and audio provided), “Our Common Mission,” at the 2007 Adventure Travel World Summit, to new UNWTO and Xola Consulting adventure travel research, profiles on new industry partners and member benefits and services, and tools and resources that you can use within your organization today.

Thanks for your continued interest in ATN – as always, I invite you to email me at for feedback, ideas and opinions.

In the spirit of adventure,

Chris Doyle
