President's Letter ~ Adventure Travel World Summit 2007

Thank you again for being a part of the 2007 Adventure Travel World Summit in Whistler.  Our minds were spinning for weeks after the event - it was such an incredible time spent together.  My favorite quote this year so far is: “The Summit is the one event every year that I look forward to: it’s brain food!”Shannon Stowell ATWS 2007

Your ongoing participation is appreciated and vital, when you attend the Summits, complete the surveys, join ATTA as an active member or just call us and tell us how we can serve the community better.

Thank you also for the great feedback about the 2007 Summit - over 200 of you even filled out the post-event survey!  A few nuggets about this year’s event you may want to know:

  • There were 505 attendees this year (about 20% higher than last year)
  • The event overall was rated by you as a 4.2 out of a total of 5 (5 being the best it could be).  While it was great, we have room to make it better
  • While Seattle as a city and a venue for the Summit still beat out Whistler (just barely) in the ratings, people loved Whistler and all it had to offer
  • While you were very happy overall with the speakers, networking, sessions and entertainment, we also received plenty of great ideas on how to improve and even a few things to eliminate
  • 70% of you prefer the Summit to be in mid-October rather than early or late in the month
  • Nearly 70% would like the event to be 3 days long instead of 4
  • Support for the Adventure Travel Summit- South America is growing rapidly- both attendees and partners
  • Subjects of highest interest for future summits:
    • Marketing – trends, branding, marketing, advertising
    • Future Vision – emergent trends, destinations, niches, etc.
    • Strategic Alliances & Collaboration – Networking sectors within the adventure travel community
    • Internet – SEO, Web design, email marketing, blogs, etc.
    • Distribution & Selling – technology platforms, GDS, partnerships, etc.

We value highly the input you gave- this helps us stay in touch with what’s important to you and to keep a pulse on the community as well.  (If you didn’t get to fill out the survey yet, click here)

We look forward to seeing you again next year if not sooner.  We’ll be working with Adventures in Travel Expo in New York, Washington D.C. and Chicago in 2008 on the content for the trade days, so look us up if you are planning on being there.  Stay tuned for regional meetings as well and we look forward to continuing to serve as your ATTA.

Best Regards,

Shannon Stowell, President
