AMTAVE is the Mexican Association of Adventure and Ecotourism. It was founded 12 years ago by a small group of young Mexican operators who, seeing the risk and potential of introducing the markets to the pristine natural sites that they were promoting, decided to form an organization whose purpose would be to assure responsible adventure travel development. The slogan introduced was “to protect by promoting” and they set about structuring the principals, values, code of ethics and government lobbying necessary to meet their ambitious goals of creating an organized nature-based tourism project.
Presently, the AMTAVE mission statement is about the consolidation,
representation, education awareness and promotion of nature tourism in
Mexico. The Association represents 100 members composed of community and
private operators, guides, related service providers and organizations.
The tour operators cover a large variety of sites, activities and
environments all over Mexico. AMTAVE members can attend to national and
international markets and the information by activity, state and
operator is on the Association web page:

Mexico is a country with a great nature travel potential. It offers an enormous diversity and cultural richness that is unique in the area. Strategically, Mexico has dedicated its tourism promotion efforts towards beach resort tourism and has failed to position the small environmentally conscious and community projects. The new government is fully aware of this omission and prepared to invest important efforts into developing nature and cultural circuits, guides, adventure activities with the local operators. This means working jointly with international tour operators to assure the standards, quality and economic fair trade principles that will have a positive impact on the remote and fragile destinations in Mexico.
We are looking forward to working with international organizations who are interested in bringing groups to Mexico via partnerships and alliances with our members.
