ATTA New Member Profile - Sundance ~ Alaska Exploration Cruises

Sundance LogoAlaska Exploration Cruises is an adventure company whose primary goal is to share with visitors the overwhelming beauty of remote Alaska, to let them see the Alaska they have dreamed of. We would like to share with agencies several itineraries aimed towards adventurers who would like an opportunity to get to know the people of Southeast Alaska, their land and way of life.

Our routes have been chosen specifically so that your clients may explore this beautiful country in the way that only people from Alaska can show them. Rich with history, wildlife, majestic mountains, waterfalls and endless shorelines and coves, Alaska Exploration Cruises guide their guests to places unseen or experienced by most visitors. Having our 70’ adventure vessel Sundance and crew all to themselves and spending very little time in port, your clients, our guests will enjoy peace and tranquility while immersed in Alaska’s wild nature that will truly refresh their soul.

Taking into consideration the diverse preferences of your clients, our expeditions touch on everything Southeast Alaska has to offer. Every cruise is unique, from a fisherman stopping to give us eight freshly caught king crab which we were happy to feast on to hearing a story about a bear breaking into our friends remote, hand built log house the night before we stopped to visit them!

kayak waterfallOur guests may choose to kayak along shorelines spying on bears, among icebergs, and even with whales. They can relax in a remote natural hot spring situated next to a rushing waterfall. They can fish or simply explore the shoreline by speed boat or our historic wooden rowing skiff given to us by a local native. They can help us pull and set both our shrimp and crab pots. They can learn how we prepare our catch. They can learn navigation with our experienced captain who has an unlimited tonnage license and who has spent most of his life at sea in Alaska. We may visit an art gallery filled with local art in a remote village accessible only by small boat or float plane. Hiking availability depends entirely upon bear activity. Or guests may just sit back and relax! Although we have planned activities for each day, we are always happy to stray, fun and exploration is what we are about!

Sundance was originally built for the ocean and her width of 21 feet, draft (or depth) of 11 feet and weight of 150 tons makes her a very comfortable riding vessel for cruising Alaska’s waters. Sundance was completely refitted in 2005 and 2006. Her floors are done in recycled fir with maple on the walls and contrasting trim. Her salon is spacious and provides a great viewing area with large windows and built-in settees. A surround sound stereo system with a flat panel TV is perfect for viewing your photos or movies at the end of the day. Also on the main deck is a nice bathroom and a separate room with a custom tiled shower and cedar lined sauna. The large galley is aft and is fitted with modern appliances including a Bosh double oven and 40” cook top where delicious pies, homemade bread and wonderful hearty meals are prepared! There is also a barbeque on the main deck which is used quite often!

Her four staterooms each have custom made mattresses on a double berth with single berth over. Our guests consistently tell us that they have never had such a good nights sleep! Each stateroom has a sink and there is a shared bathroom with a full sized shower on the stateroom deck.

The wheelhouse has 2 settees that provide a great place for guests to view the scenery and talk with the captain.

Sundance also has ample outside deck area for outdoor activities!

Crew quarters are located all the way forward and in the wheelhouse and so are separate from guest quarters.

Sundance, we have been told, is like home away from home!

Sundance charters to groups up to 12 passengers but we find that 8 is a very comfortable number. Her Alaskan crew of 3 to 5 provides your guests with personalized attention to insure a tour that exceeds their expectations. Children are always welcome as long as they can fit into a lifejacket.  Special dietary needs are always taken into consideration.

Alaska Exploration Cruises is oriented towards any client who truly wants to experience Alaska’s wilderness and take the time to really see what Alaska is all about.

We would like to offer our services to complement the variety of products you already have available and to agencies that have not yet provided their customers with an alternative to cruising Alaska on large or small cruise ships and who are interested in complementing their services by promoting affordable, private and customized adventure travel in Alaska’s Inside Passage.

Sundance cruises between the ports of Ketchikan, Craig, Wrangell, Juneau and Sitka for a length of 7 to 14 days depending on the chosen itinerary. Please feel free to call or email us or see our website for deposit and cancellation policies.
