ADVENTURERS BLAZE TRAIL FOR VACATION LAW

Editor’s Note:
Long time friend and colleague Joe Robinson delivered an incredibly creative program during one of the 2006 ATWS keynote presentations, which resulted in a room of approximately 400 adventurers from around the world standing up to learn samba – on the fly! His take-away message was a bit deeper and was centered on helping you, your clients and client prospects to achieve a healthier work-life balance.

Please consider Joe’s special suggestions below – it’s a letter of particular relevance to 2006 Adventure Travel World Summit delegates, but is certainly apropos for the entire adventure travel community – and beyond. I hope you will follow up with Joe at your earliest chance.

ADVENTURERS BLAZE TRAIL FOR VACATION LAW

Greetings, Adventurers!

I trust you're still practicing your samba diligently after the ATTA summit.

I thoroughly enjoyed doing the keynote, meeting all of you, watching your growth as dancers and feeling your enthusiasm for the spirit of the road.

Now that we’re in the midst of the holidays and the new year approaching, I'd like to mention something I forgot about in my talk --my book, "Work to Live," which is handy for anyone who's overworked and underplayed, and available at http://www.worktolive.info. A good prod for a new start.

I also wanted to explore merging some work-life balance work with adventure. In my corporate trainings, I pitch execs on the power of direct experience and adventure and would like to steer them to an adventure trip for the wakeup call --rafting, kayaking, biking. Let me know if your company would be interested in this.

I'd also like to take a Work to Live program on the road on a few adventure trips. Since we have one of the premier health products in the world, this is a way we can make that link and bring in new customers. I'd weave a program on the dynamics of the participant experience together with tips to help customers achieve work-life balance. It's a way to leave clients with a souvenir that can change their lives. That's value-added. If you're interested, drop me a line at joe@worktolive.info.

And, finally, we have some very exciting news on the minimum paid-leave front. We have interest in Congress in introducing a vacation bill. This could be big. I'll let you know as soon as we're able to release some details.

Have a great holiday and '07!

See you in Adventure mag and down the road,
Joe Robinson
