Fort William & Lochaber, the Outdoor Capital of the UK – from Summit to Sea, you will discover iconic views, attractions and adventures that will live in your memory for a lifetime.

At the heart of the Outdoor Capital lies Ben Nevis, the highest point in the UK, which not only attracts 100,000 hill walkers annually, but also offers unique opportunities for mountaineering, rock climbing and ice climbing. Mountain biking is especially popular with the hills around Ben Nevis being the venue for the Mountain Bike World Cup and the Mountain Bike World Championships. Further afield, we have some of the most beautiful beaches and coasts in Scotland and you’ll have the opportunity to explore them by sea kayak. For extreme thrills, you will be making a vertical descent of 500ft as we go canyoning at Inchree Falls.

Wildlife abounds in Lochaber and nowhere else offers the opportunity to view such a rich variety of sea life, birds, flora and fauna. You will have the chance to spot our native icons from the sea as well as on land.

Highland culture and hospitality are legendary and we will be immersing you in the rich history we are famous for.

Day 1 – Friday, 1st October: Sea Kayaking with Rockhopper. See wildlife, as you travel silently around one of the most beautiful areas for sea kayaking in the world, taking in the some of the most spectacular coastal, mountain and island scenery in Scotland. Lochaber is rich in wildlife and you may be lucky enough to encounter seals, dolphins, porpoise, otters, a huge variety of coastal birds or perhaps even the white tailed sea eagle. En route, we will stop off at stunning Glenfinnan, home to the iconic monument commemorating Bonnie Prince Charlie and the Jacobite uprising, and ‘Harry Potter’s Viaduct’. Before dinner, explore the 13th century Inverlochy Castle and the nearby mouth of River Lochy, a wildlife haven, with Glenloy Wildlife.

Day 2 – Saturday, 2nd October: Rock, Ridge & Scramble with Snowgoose Mountain Centre and Abacus Mountaineering. You can’t come to Lochaber and not try some climbing in and around the iconic Glen Nevis. This is an excellent opportunity to experience a full guided mountain day which, for experienced, fit walkers who do not mind easy scrambling but are not climbers, is one of the finest ways to climb in the Ben Nevis area. There are truly spectacular routes which will live long in the memory and do true justice to our local mountain ranges.

Day 3 – Sunday, 3rd October: Canyoning with Vertical Descents.  Make a vertical descent of 500ft. Dressed from head to toe in thermal neoprene suits and specialist canyoning equipment, you will experience the thrill of sliding through natural water flumes, swimming through pools and jumping and abseiling off waterfalls.

Then on to mountain biking with Highland Activities at Nevis Range where you will join Alasdair McLennan, World Championship Mountain Bike Downhill Veteran Champion, on his ‘home turf’. If there’s time, we may even stop off at Ardverikie (home of the ‘Monarch of the Glen’) for a quick round of clay pigeon shooting.

Trip Design, Logistics & Guiding: Fort William & Lochaber is the Outdoor Capital of the UK – an outdoor playground like no other!  With spectacular beaches, sheltered coastline, islands, glens, mountains, forests, lochs and Ben Nevis and Glencoe, there’s no better place to get out and enjoy the stunning Highlands landscape.

  • I appreciate the aspects of continuing education at the Summit - it feels like an intensive course. We are living and breathing our businesses every day so it it vitally important to make time to be away: to reflect, take stock and get new ideas. It was exciting and energising to hear so many inspirational speakers and participate with other delegates in the sharing of knowledge...everone was very approachable and I never feel excluded. The Summit is truly the United Nations of adventure travel!"
