Aviemore and the Cairngorms proudly welcomes you to this day of discovery. Our hosts are providing each “Day of Adventure” option with transportation, an adventure activity, equipment and a packed lunch. All adventures depart from the Macdonald Aviemore Highland Resort Conference Centre at 8:30AM and return at 4:00PM. And stop by the yellow tent in the auditorium to check out product demos from Eddie Bauer First Ascent!

Aviemore and the Cairngorms are providing more than 25 adventures to choose from covering water, land and mountain adventures. Your choices include, free of charge, wild to mild white water rafting, canyoning, canoe and whisky tours, sea kayaking in search of dolphins, clay pigeon shooting, canoeing, sailing a loch, ferrata, nature walking, working at an estate, golfing, ropes course swinging, rock climbing and so much more. All Day of Adventures are on a first-come, first-served basis and subject to change.

  1. Choose your Day of Adventure activity from those listed below, sorted by where the adventure will take place (water, land, mountains). Difficulty is listed in numbers of Loch Ness Monsters.
  2. Complete the Day of Adventure Form with your selection.
  3. You will be contacted by Sept. 27th by the tour operator directly in regards to equipment, meeting place etc.

A great combination of an exhilarating activity in a fantastic little environment at Bridge of Brown.  This adventure is an example of how the land and beauty of the scenery can be enjoyed whilst undertaking a popular and more traditional countryside activity.

  • Please bring for the Gorge walking base layer clothing, ideally thermals, but otherwise t-shirt and leggings/shorts, along with socks shoes that will get wet. A towel and change of clothes including footwear will also be needed.

A range of watersports are on offer on one of Scotland’s most stunning small lochs including: keel boat, dinghy, windsurfing, paddle sports, fishing and rowing on the loch. Off the water we have archery, a dry ski slope and not forgetting stunning walks and mountain biking.  In 2005 Loch Insh Watersports Centre was honoured with the Tourism in the Environment Award, sponsored by Scottish National Heritage, after introducing wildlife boat tours, where family or club parties could enjoy a guided trip around the loch for a closer look at the wonderful diversity of birds and vegetation.

Entertaining open canoe journey within Cairngorms National Park, on the River Spey, featuring an in-depth malt whisky tasting. Session facilitated by Dave Craig the Spey’s most experienced river guide, with sound knowledge of Speyside malts. Explanations and savouring of at least 4 exquisite, handcrafted single malts, taking place in a riverside yurt, will be led by Dr. Andrew Forrester, UK Ambassador for The Balvenie.

[DDET 11. FULL Wildlife Tours within National Park3 Loch Nesses of Difficulty]
Experience first hand the glories of the wildlife here in the Cairngorms National Park. Join an experienced wildlife guide through the pine forests, lochs and glens, seeking out the speciality bird and mammal species that inhabit this special place.

  • A few binoculars are available.
  • The weather can vary enormously so please bring gloves and hats. Thin layers are better rather than one heavy layer and try to ensure all clothing is non-rustly. Stout walking boots or shoes are essential.  Binoculars if you have them and cameras as long as flash can be switched off and camera is silent-running.

[DDET 14.  Land and sustainability management of the Crown Estate1 Loch Ness of Difficulty]
Enjoy exploring the stunning Glenlivet Estate as we discover how this multi-purpose award winning Highland Estate is managed for a variety of objectives, from traditional land management to tourism and conservation. We’ll visit a working upland farm and a diversified reindeer / rare breeds farm, look at commercial forestry and recreation, explore the restored ruins of historic Drumin Castle, spot wildlife on a short riverside walk and enjoy a wee dram as we tour The Glenlivet Distillery.

Play two courses in one day! Enjoy the stunning views of our mountains from two beautiful local golf courses. Abernethy 9 hole course is a joy to play and then head over to Craggan for their unique 18 hole par three course. This a great opportunity for informal golf in the heart of the Cairngorms National Park.

Fully guided walks on some Scotland’s classic trails and paths and mountains.  All these activities will be led by an instructor who is taught to lead so leave no trace as a group leader as well as an individual user. This will show the two different types of responsibility that keep our environment pristine, namely, as group leaders and individuals.

Enjoy as day out on the Rothiemurchus Estate. Guests will be treated to a range of activities each expertly delivered by local businesses working to the highest level of service. Activities include: high ropes, walking, fishing and Landover trails of the estate.

  • Ear protectors, glasses and shotguns for clay shooting, and rods for fishing will be provided.

[DDET 20. FULL Red Deer Stalking 3 Loch Nesses of Difficulty]
Stalking Red Deer stags to control by game shooting or just to photograph. Peter Ferguson 3rd generation of local professional stalkers or his assistant guide guests through the highest ‘hills’ in U.K.or through the ancient forest. The magnificent stags or Monarchs of the Glen – are at their magnificent and noisiest best during the ‘rut’ or mating season ‘roaring’ their warning to rivals competing for the hinds.  Rothiemurchus stalkers are essential to caring for the biodiversity of  the most extensive area of natural forest in Scotland.  They ensure the red, roe deer are maintained at levels which conserves the health of the forest and it’s wildlife.  Rothiemurchus, a 10,000 hectare estate, owned and managed by the Grants of Rothiemurchus for over 450 years, awarded 55,000 hectares of national and international designations.

Walk part of route of the Great Glen Way national long distance trail above Loch Ness. The day will also incorporate return trip by boat on Loch Ness and, time permitting, a visit to Urquhart Castle on the shores of the loch.

[DDET 22. FULL Easy Peaks in the Park 3 Loch Nesses of Difficulty]
Easy hill walk to view some great views of the area with local knowledgeable guides. Not too strenuous (but does involve a hill walk, possibly to around 800 meters).

[DDET 23. FULL Cairngorm Macdui Walk 5 Loch Nesses of Difficulty]
Guided walk to Ben MacDui, full day walk, climb to the summit of Britain’s second highest mountain returning via the summit of Cairngorm ending up in the Ptarmigan Restaurant for refreshments and descending by the funicular, UK’s highest and longest funicular railway.  The fact that walkers may only use the funicular railway for the return journey down the mountain, limits the footfall on the fragile environment of the Cairngorm plateau. The walks will be conducted on a “take on memories, leave only footprints”.

[DDET 24. FULL Cromdale Ridge Walk and Yoga 3 Loch Nesses of Difficulty]
Commence Cromdale Hills Ridge walk to Beallich with lunch enroute, then a 1 hour Yoga session at Beallich.  Witness land management en route. Discuss access, impact of tourism and biodiversity. Your guide for the day will be a Leave No Trace Trainer.

[DDET 25. FULL Cairngorm Skyline Mountain Walk 4 Loch Nesses of Difficulty]
The much overlooked north ridge of Cairngorm is our chosen route. Far from the crowds and high above the deep defile of Strathnethy we make a steady ascent to the high plateau and then on up to the summit dome. From here the views go on forever. We then continue along the skyline as seen from Aviemore to complete a classic mountain circuit around the edge of the plateau high above the great ampitheatres of the Northern Corries.

  • Please bring proper ankle height hiking boots, waterproof jacket & trousers, warm hat, gloves, fleece, rucksack and your usual hiking gear.

Wolftrax has built a strong reputation for some of the best purpose built mountain bike trails in the country, not to mention the easy access to some of the best wild riding in the world. Only 30mins drive from Aviemore and 45mins from the World Cup trails in Fort William with nearly 18 km of track ranging from the 3.2 km. Blue grade Fun Park to the extremely difficult Black grade trail containing the “2 Ton Drop” and the “Back, Sack and Crack Attack” features.
