  2. Book your flight, train and accommodations. See below for information and discounts for each. When you are done, complete the Pre-Departure Form – this will help VisitScotland to make arrangements to provide you with a very warm Scottish welcome in Aviemore (for those arriving on Sunday, 3 October).

Four Ways to get to the Summit

Please check all bus and train schedules to suit your flight arrival times.  Details below provided by VisitScotland.

Bus Transfers:
VisitScotland has offered complimentary coach tranfers on Sunday October 3rd from Edinburgh and Glasgow International Airports to the Summit, and returning to the airports on Friday, October 8th. The reservation deadline has now passed for these free transfers.

Additional Travel Options to Aviemore

[DDET 1. Arrival Edinburgh (EDI) Scenic Route]
When you arrive at the historic, cosmopolitan, and cultured capital city of Scotland, you will view the Edinburgh Castle which dominates the city-centre skyline, and travel up through the beltway of Scotland.

  1. Once you arrive at Edinburgh Airport, you will need to catch the Airlink bus. This express bus service runs from stand 19 (just outside Domestic Arrivals at Edinburgh airport) to Waverley Bridge. Buy tickets at the airport information desk, at the bus stop, or online.
    • Frequency: Every 10 minutes (early services every 20 minutes).
    • Journey time: 25-30 minutes (Waverley Bridge).
    • Fare: Single £3.50, return £6 (reductions for children). As a delegate you qualify for discounted Airlink rate if purchased online for adult round-trip of £5.50 in-advance online only
    • The entrance to the station is directly opposite the bus stop
  2. At Edinburgh Waverley Station you will need to catch a train to Aviemore (AVM) via either:
    • ScotRail Click here to view journey details, train times, choose seats and purchase tickets– Purchases in advance cost around £20 for the three-hour scenic train ride.
      • There are 3 direct services from Edinburgh to Aviemore on Sunday 3rd October on ScotRail (the other times require a change in Perth which is not ideal with luggage, etc.)

        • 13.50 arriving at 16.42 in Aviemore
        • 17.11 arriving at 20.04 in Aviemore

Staff from VisitScotland will greet you at Edinburgh Airport on Sunday 3rd October. We recommend you allow 1 hour between catching the bus and arriving at the station so that you arrive in good time for the departure of your train.[/DDET]

[DDET 2. Arrival in Glasgow (GLA)]
Glasgow is Scotland’s biggest city, filled with style, impressive architecture and culture.

  1. Once you arrive at Glasgow Airport, you will need to catch the Glasgow Flyer (service 500) operated by Arriva. This bus service runs from the airport to Queen Street Station. Buy tickets from your driver SPT Travel Centre (ground floor, Domestic Arrivals), VisitScotland Information Centre (ground floor at International Arrivals or online http://www.citylink.co.uk/journeyplanner.php. The Glasgow Flyer leaves from Stance 1 outside the main airport terminal building.
    • Frequency: Every 10 minutes (early services every 20 minutes).
    • Journey time: 20 minutes.
    • Fare: Single £4.50, return £7 (reductions for children).
  2. From Glasgow Queen Street Station, get off the bus at Glasgow West George (George Square – 2nd last stop) the bus will stop directly outside Glasgow Queen Street station.
  3. At Glasgow Queen Street Station you will need to catch a train to Aviemore (AVM) via either:
    • ScotRail. Click here to view journey details, train times, choose seats and purchase tickets. Purchases in advance cost around £20 for the three-hour scenic train ride.
      • There are 2 direct services from Glasgow to Aviemore on Sunday 3rd October on ScotRail:
        • 14.40 arriving at 17.11 in Aviemore

[DDET 3. Arrival in Inverness]

When you arrive into Inverness on Flybe Airlines (be sure to check additional baggage fees), you will have landed into the prosperous hub of the Highlands, known for the pink crenellated castle.

  1. Once you arrive at Inverness Airport, you will need to catch the bus which runs every 30 minutes into Inverness. This bus service runs from the airport to Falcon Square, near Inverness Station. Buy tickets from your driver on the day. Catch either the number 10, 10a, 11 or 11a bus which leave outside the airport terminal building.
    • Frequency: Every 30 minutes.
    • Journey time: 25 minutes .
    • Fare: Single £3, return £4.50.
  2. From Inverness Station, get off the bus at Falcon Square and walk for a couple of minutes along Academy Street – the entrance to the station is on the right hand side.
  3. At Inverness Station you will need to catch a train to Aviemore (AVM) via either:
    • ScotRail. Click here to view journey details, train times, choose seats and purchase tickets for the 45 minute train ride.
      • There are 3 direct services from Inverness to Aviemore on Sunday 3rd October on ScotRail:

Arrival at London City

  1. Once you arrive at London City, you will need to take the Docklands Light Railway (DLR) to King’s Cross station. The DLR is an over ground system connecting East London to the London Underground network. It is connected to the airport terminal making transport to and from the airport fast
    and convenient.

    • Frequency: every 8 to 15 minutes
    • Journey time: 35 minutes
  2. At King’s Cross Stations you will need to catch a train to Aviemore (AVM) via either:

  2. At London Victoria, you will need to take the Victoria line on the London Underground to King’s Cross train station

Arrival at London Heathrow

  1. Once you arrive at London Heathrow, you will need to catch the London Underground to King’s Cross train station. Heathrow has three London Underground stations – one for Terminals 1 and 3, one each at Terminal 4 and Terminal 5. Heathrow Terminals 1 and 3 station is in the central area between the terminals and a few minutes’ walk from them via underground walkways. Terminal 4 and Terminal 5 stations are in the basements of the terminal buildings. All stations are in Travelcard Zone 6. Take the Piccadilly line (East) to Green Park then take the Victoria line (north ) to King’s Cross
    • Journey time: 50 minutes
    • Fare: approximately £4
  2. Alternatively, you can catch the Heathrow Express to London Paddington. Take either the Circle line or Hammersmith and City Line travelling East to Kings Cross station
  3. Heathrow Express trains stop at Heathrow Central (for Terminals 1 and 3) and Heathrow Terminal 5. Passengers travelling to Terminal 4 should change on to the new free Heathrow Express shuttle at Heathrow Central.
    • Frequency: Every 15 minutes
    • Journey time: 15 minutes
    • Fare: Single £18, return £32
  4. At either Paddington or King’s Cross Stations you will need to catch a train to Aviemore (AVM) via either:

    • Fare: Passengers arriving at the airport or at the station without purchasing a rail ticket will pay a bus fare of £1.50 single, £2.50 Standard Day Return and £3.00 Standard Open Return (children pay half price).
  2. At Luton Airport Parkway, you will need to take the train to London St Pancras.
    • Frequency: every hour
    • Journey time: 40 minutes
    • Fare: approximately £12
  3. At St Pancras turn left out of the station. King’s Cross is 5 minutes walk.
  4. At King’s Cross Stations you will need to catch a train to Aviemore (AVM) via either:
