Editor's Field Notes

Welcome to the inaugural edition of AdventureTravelNews, the Adventure Travel Trade Association's monthly online newsletter serving the adventure travel industry.

The purpose of AdventureTravelNews is to bring news, information, and resources to ATTA Members.  Our intent is to bring matters to the forefront that encourage information sharing, industry understanding, and networking that help to stimulate responsible growth for the adventure travel industry. Finally, we’ll bring sometimes challenging discussions to the forefront. Keep in mind, the goal of any challenging content presented will be to stimulate dialogue, foster understanding, fuel collaboration, and bring about solutions and fresh perspectives.

And, in the spirit of Condé Nast Traveler’s “Truth in Travel” tag (see “Truth in Travel” Marketing & Public Relations article in this month’s issue), we’ll pursue the same laudable mission. This theme will carry through in ATTA e-newsletters and in all our networking events, white papers, research and marketing efforts. If we unwittingly bruise our elbows along the way in pursuit of truth, we ask that you call us on it (diplomatically), and we’ll do our best to respond, admit fault, clarify, correct, and offer the opportunity to publish reasonable challenges.

Being a new source of information for our industry, we hope and expect that industry influencers will contribute to AdventureTravelNews. As in most things, you get what you give. I openly solicit your contributions.

Send your news tips, news releases, story ideas, pioneering undertakings, unusual industry occurrences, issues and partnership ideas to me ( – 916.791.9409). We intend to cover topics that could use some open-forum dialogue and questions that the lion’s share of our readers may find timely and compelling. Additionally, if you’re interested in contributing a by-lined story, an opinion, photography and/or other creative elements, I’ll also carefully consider your offer(s).
