Student, Career-transition-minded Internship Opportunities with the ATTA

Universities, students and individuals seeking to get involved with and learn more about the adventure travel industry may be interested in exploring ATTA’s intern opportunities. In addition to the industry knowledge gained from conducting research, ATTA interns (non-paid) will benefit from extraordinary networking opportunities - meeting and interacting with business leaders from all sectors of the adventure travel industry, including tour operators and brokers, tourism boards, service providers, travel agents/agencies, hospitality, media, and retail. ATTA interns have the potential to become full or part-time employees at the ATTA, with ATTA Member organizations or other adventure travel industry businesses. Interns will be given full credit in all published materials for their contribution and be acknowledged for their contributions at industry conferences and meeting

This fall the ATTA has undertaken two significant research projects with opportunities for intern participation: the creation of an Adventure Travel Industry Sourcebook and research and analysis for the 2005 Adventure Travel State of the Industry Report.

The Adventure Travel Industry Sourcebook will provide for the first time clear definitions for the confusing array of adventure tourism terms that have appeared in articles and travel brochures in recent years. If we in the industry aren’t clear about what distinguishes nature travel from eco travel, adventure travel from geotourism, it’s not surprising to learn that travelers are also confused. One simple way to interest people in exploring adventure travel options, and give them the confidence to step out and try something new, is to be clear about what adventure travel can offer. The Adventure Travel Industry Sourcebook will provide definitions for commonly used terms as well as a categorized listing of tourism industry associations, adventure and eco travel associations, and tourism policy and research organizations.

The 2005 Adventure Travel State of the Industry Report will estimate the number of adventure travel firms in the United States and survey a subset of those firms about their expectations for business growth, current and burgeoning marketing practices, and insurance issues. For firms in the adventure travel industry, the Report will provide valuable information which can be used to benchmark business practices and expenditures against others in the industry. For the media and tourism policy makers, the Report will provide important evidence of the growth and strength of the adventure travel industry.
