Where will AdventureNEXT Near East Take Place?

AdventureNEXT Near East 2017 will be held in The Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. The sessions, most meals and networking will happen at the Kempinski Hotel Ishtar Dead Sea (shown as the red pin), on the shore of the Dead Sea, 400 meters (1,312 feet) below sea level. It is accessible via a 60-minute drive from Amman and close to many touristic and historical sites, such as Madaba, Wadi Mujib, Mount Nibo and the Baptism site. Nearby hotels are shown as a yellow pin on the map.

The Kempinski Hotel is on the shores of the Dead Sea and renowned for its bedouin hospitality and culinary expertise.

The Kempinski and nearby hotels are conveniently only an hour from the international airport

AdventureNEXT events will take place in indoor and outdoor facilities at the Kempinski Hotel

Pre-Adventure

All delegates are invited to enjoy one of many Pre-Adventures for a nominal fee. A limited number of buyers and media are eligible for complimentary Pre-Adventures.

Airport & Shuttles

The new Queen Alia International Airport (QAIA) is conveniently located just an hour from the Kempinski Hotel. Considered to be the main airport in Jordan, QAIA is serviced by many global airline carriers and will be the main airport for the conference arrival and departures. Jordan Tourism has an office inside the airport if delegates need assistance upon arrival. Car rentals are available.

Jordan is working with a transfer company to book complimentary transfers between select hotels at the Dead Sea and the Amman Airport (AMM) on select days only. Please sign up for your desired transfer time. If you wish to transfer outside of these times or locations, please make your own arrangements. The deadline to book a transfer is Wednesday, May 10.

Passports & Travel Visa

A passport with a validity of at least six months and a visa are required for single entry to Jordan. Visas are required and for most nationalities, can be obtained upon arrival. Some nationalities and multiple-entry plans require obtaining a visa prior to arrival. We strongly encourage you to review this list to check the visa requirements or contact your local embassy.

For delegates who are citizens of countries that require a visa, the ATTA can provide you with an invitation letter to assist you in your visa application. Registered delegates only, fill out the Visa Letter Request Form. Your invitation letter will be delivered by email as a PDF file within five business days.

Packing Considerations

Due to recent travel advisories within the Near East, please review the latest information from your government and your air carrier regarding restrictions, travel information, and especially luggage requirements for entering or departing the country of Jordan. For example, the US Department of Homeland Security issued a Security Enhancement for Select Last Point of Departure Airports with Commercial Flights to the United States on March 21, 2017 stating that “All passengers flying through and from these locations will have to place electronic devices that are larger than a cell phone/smart phone in their checked bags regardless of the passenger’s citizenship.” The United Kingdom has issued a similar restriction. These new restrictions impact most flights coming in and out of Queen Alia International Airport in Amman (AMM), but not all. Please plan accordingly – we suggest using security-approved luggage locks on your baggage and purchasing travel protection that includes coverage for electronics in checked bags. If carry-on luggage rules change, we will update this information. Further resources:

It will be warmer at the Dead Sea and in the Jordan Valley as well as in Aqaba on the Red Sea. Bring a light jacket for layering in the evenings. Please check the 10-day forecast before your departure.

Mosquitos can be a nuisance this time of year at the Dead Sea. Plan on bringing bug repellant in your personal belongings.

Attire

As with all ATTA events, the attire is ‘Adventure Casual’. Adventure Casual means jeans or pants with a shirt or fleece, on occasion you may see a sport jacket or very casual dress. A light jacket or sweater is recommended for the evenings. Pre-Adventures may have specific packing requirements; you’ll receive this information ahead of time from your activity provider.

Even though Jordan is primarily a Muslim country, the freedom of all religions is protected. Some traditional Muslim and Christian women choose to wear clothing that covers their arms, legs and/or hair, however, this is by choice only and no one is subject to these customs. Regardless, very revealing clothing is not appropriate and conservative dress is advisable for both men and women in the old part of Amman (downtown) and in smaller cities.

Connectivity

Please check with your hotel for additional information on internet connectivity. There will be free WiFi internet access during AdventureNEXT at the Kempinski Hotel.

Electrical System

The electrical system in Jordan is based on 220 AC volts, 50 cycles. The most commonly used electrical outlets in Jordan are: Type C; Type F; Type G. Visitors from North America will need a converter and adapter.

Travel Protection & Emergency Evacuation

Important Notice: The ATTA highly recommends that all AdventureNEXT participants purchase travel insurance to provide the level of protection and support you require during your involvement at the event and during Pre- or Post-NEXT activities. The ATTA encourages delegates to consider purchasing travel insurance with ATTA’s Travel Insurance Partner – World Nomads. Additional ATTA travel insurance and safety/medical member providers include: AIG, Global Rescue, and Ripcord – powered by Redpoint.

The Jordan Tourism Board has arranged for other entities to provide indoor and outdoor activities for AdventureNEXT participants.
