Adventure Media Membership FAQs

We are in the process of updating our membership model and are currently not accepting new media member applications at this time. The following FAQs apply to existing Adventure Media Members. This FAQ will be updated with the new membership model in the fall of 2019.

Why do you offer membership to media?

The Adventure Travel Trade Association (ATTA) values the expertise, perspective, and storytelling skills that professional travel journalists, editors, bloggers, influencers, photojournalists and broadcast journalists bring to our global community through our programs. Established in 1990, the ATTA now serves over 1000 members in over 100 countries worldwide, and has enjoyed long-established relationships with travel journalists who recognized the value of connecting with ATTA members as experts on product, services, and destination trends. Introduced in 2016 and developed with the input of the ATTA’s Adventure Media Advisory Group, the Adventure Media Membership level provides individual members of the media the opportunity to connect to an expansive network of adventure and sustainable travel community professionals worldwide through official membership.

Who qualifies for Adventure Media Membership?

Established individual journalists or content creators regularly producing editorial adventure and sustainable travel stories and content for print or digital media platforms that reaches a substantial audience.

If the applicant’s main outlet is a self-published website or blog, minimum requirements include being established a minimum of two years, regularly publishing editorial content that is not sponsored, and meeting the minimum traffic requirement of 3,000 unique visits/sessions per month sustained for at least the last six months. This membership level is not available to organizations, only individuals.

Publishers, hobby bloggers, public relations and marketing agency representatives, or media service providers (video production, content development, advertising, travel apps) are not eligible for Adventure Media Membership, but are encouraged to attend ATTA events and consider the benefits of joining as an Industry Partner Member. (Industry Partner level media organizations receive two annual individual media memberships for editorial staff.)

If I’m new to the industry, how can I get involved and learn?

We encourage those interested in the global adventure travel industry to stay up to date by subscribing to receive Adventure Travel News, or consider attending an ATTA event. AdventureConnect networking events are a great way to start and the community is very welcoming.

If my main, self-published outlet is a partnership, can we join together?

Unfortunately, no. The individual membership benefits are affiliated with a single person and email address, and cannot be transferred to another person. It is an option, however, for only one individual member of a partnership to apply/join.

What are the benefits of being an Adventure Media Member?

Benefits are outlined on the main adventure media membership page, and in the application itself.

How are media members considered for events?

Active media members receive direct email notifical of ATTA event media application opportunities via the monthly media newsletter, and have exclusive first access to apply. If accepted as a discounted media delegate for an event, they also receive a further discount on event registration. Active media membership does not guarantee an application will be selected for an event.
