Adventure Travel Trade Association (ATTA) understands that the 2020 Covid-19 pandemic has changed the travel industry. The ATTA has collected feedback throughout its membership base and global community, and the most resounding need and priority from destinations and tour operators is a global consensus on health and safety guidelines for adventure activities.
As a way to support adventure tourism’s healthy return, the ATTA along with the industry, will create Adventure Travel COVID-19 Health & Safety Guidelines to enable destinations, tour operators, and service providers to come back as soon as possible.
The objectives for the guidelines are 1) they be used by all major outbound and inbound companies to avoid differences in guidelines and confusion in the market and 2) they are used by destinations to inform their industry on how to come back in an organized and safe manner.
Technical goals for the Guidelines are to provide:
On June 23rd ATTA released COVID-19 Health and Safety Guidelines for three adventure activities (trekking, biking, rafting) and one overarching guideline for our industry. Including a practical risk assessment to allow you to understand how to best address your business needs. Access them here.
An industry review process of seven additional guidelines will be open from July 8th to July 12th, for comments and suggestions on the guidelines. We will welcome comments and suggestions on the guidelines. Please download the drafts you see on this page and send your comments via the provided Review Template to the email address: [email protected] by Sunday July 12th at 3PM PDT I 6PM EDT.
Activities Guidelines for review include:
ATTA’s founding contributors on the COVID-19 Guidelines are Switzerland Tourism; G Adventures; Japan/JTB Tourism, Research & Consulting Co.; Backroads and REI Adventure Travel. Each of these contributors are committed to the safe re-opening of their businesses and destinations and demonstrating leadership as the adventure travel industry rebuilds.
Cleveland Clinic, a world renowned healthcare provider ranked as a top U.S. hospital in U.S. News & World Report’s “2019-20 Best Hospitals,” is informing and advising ATTA on the Guidelines.
The final Guidelines will be offered gratis to the sector from ATTA and our contributors on this project.
