Julie Thorner is an adventure parent, business and marketing strategist, and sustainability advocate. She uses her richly varied business experience and training to help businesses and organizations identify their core competencies, create and refine their marketing and business strategy, implement that strategy, and measure results. Her career includes nearly a decade in the outdoor industry as a river guide, bike touring guide, and marketing VP of a multi-million dollar outdoor recreation company. She also worked on Wall Street in commercial banking, in multi-store billion dollar specialty retail when niche outdoor brands were just discovering Main Street; in marketing research for the high tech industry during the 1st dot com boom & bust; and in interactive marketing across consumer and business industries. She started on DOS systems, appreciates savvy GUIs with retina-displays, and believes regular immersion in nature and stargazing without a tech device within 100 feet is essential for humans.
Julie has an MBA in finance and marketing from Washington University Olin School of Business, where she graduated Phi Beta Gamma. She graduated Magna Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa in East Asian Studies from Duke University. She runs Liquid Spark, Inc., a marketing & media agency that specializes in travel and tourism within the adventure recreation industry with a list of premier outdoor recreation and adventure travel clients across the US and in Costa Rica.
