Free ATTA Webinar: PERU: Exploring The Great Inca Trail

30 November 2017 @ 10:00 AM PST / 18:00 UTC

Spanning six countries and 273 distinct sites, the Qhapaq Ñan’s nomination as a UNESCO World Heritage Site was a global first. When it was finally confirmed in 2014, the New York Times described it as “a 12-year cooperative effort that is its own delicate feat of engineering” before going on to marvel at how “the six long-squabbling countries that are home to the Incan road have banded together.” As a world heritage road network, it unites the two capitals of the Inca Empire -- from Cuenca to Cusco -- and some have even called it the largest public works of pre-industrial man. With adventure travel on the rise, tourism industry leaders have the opportunity to innovate methods for placing economic value on vulnerable cultural and ecological resources such as the ones in this region. In this free educational webinar, participants will learn about:

  • The history and cultural significance of the Qhapaq Ñan.
  • Trekking opportunities along the 2,000-mile section between Cuenca, Ecuador and Cusco, Peru
  • The future of luxury, high quality, inclusive community-based tourism in this region
