Where Does AdventureELEVATE 2018 Occur?

AdventureELEVATE 2018 takes place at the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity, which includes accommodations for your visit and the venue for the conference. Sessions will take place at the Kinnear Centre on the first and second floor and accommodations at the Professional Development Centre/Front Desk Reception. View map.

ARRIVING TO BANFF & LAKE LOUISE

Banff is situated in the Rocky Mountains of Alberta, Canada and the Banff Centre is located in Banff National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site. It is 128 kilometres (80 miles) west of Calgary, 401 kilometres (250 miles) southwest of Edmonton and 850 kilometres (530 miles) east of Vancouver. Commercial airlines service each of these three Canadian cities, and buses to Banff and Lake Louise run year round.

ACCOMMODATIONS

• Single or double occupancy rate: $159.00CAD – extra occupant is $20.00CAD
• Guestroom rates are subject to applicable taxes in effect at the time of the program, including 2% TIF, 4% ATL, and 5% GST.
• Guestroom rates are subject to a facility fee of $15.00 plus GST per person, per day. This fee includes: campus-wide Wi-Fi, phone calls across North America, access to Sally Borden Fitness and Recreation facilities, parking, access and borrowing privileges at The Banff Centre library and archives, and access to complimentary arts and programmed events when available.
• Triple and quadruple accommodation is available at an additional cost of $20.00 per person, per night. The Banff Centre allows a maximum of four (4) adults per guest room on a bed-share basis. There will be no additional charge for children up to the age of 14 years who share with their parents or guardian.
• The guestroom rates will be extended to cover the periods that are three (3) days pre-event
• and three (3) days post-event, subject to guest room availability.
  *Full cancellation penalties apply for guests cancelling reservations within seventy-two (72) hours of arrival and early check out.
• Check-in time is 4:00 p.m. Every effort is made to accommodate guests arriving before the check-in time; however, guestrooms may not be immediately available. Check-out time is 11:00 a.m. Requests to retain rooms beyond that hour should be directed to the front desk once the delegate is registered. Should it be possible to extend a late check-out, a late departure charge may be applicable.

CLIMATE

Banff is located in Alberta’s Rockies along the Trans-Canada Highway. With an elevation of 1,400 m to 1,630 m, the winter weather averages a high of 3°C/38°F with lows around -9°C/17°F. Be sure to check the weather closer to the event to pack accordingly for any adventures you may take.

ATTIRE

As with all ATTA events, the attire is ‘Adventure Casual’. Adventure Casual means jeans or pants with a shirt or fleece, on occasion you may see a sport jacket or very casual dress. The weather in Alberta can change quickly so it’s best to dress in layers and bring a warm jacket, boots, scarves, mittens and hats. Still unsure what to pack? PASSPORTS & TRAVEL VISA

International visitors to Canada must carry a valid passport and, if required, a valid visa. For delegates who are citizens of countries that require a visa, the ATTA can provide you with an invitation letter to assist you in your visa application. Registered delegates only, fill out the Visa Letter Request Form. Your invitation letter will be delivered by email as a PDF file within five business days.

TIME ZONE

Alberta is in the Mountain Time Zone (GMT -7 hours).

METRIC SYSTEM

Canada uses the metric system, which means highway and traffic indicators are in kilometres (km) and kilometres per hour (km/h), gas is sold by the litre and temperature is measured in degrees Celsius (°C).

ELECTRICITY

The electrical current in Canada is 110 volts. Canadian appliances operate on 110 volts (60Hz), which is identical to the U.S. voltage. A universal adaptor is required for overseas electrical devices. Main wall sockets (or power outlets) and plugs for 110 volts are two parallel flat blades. If those sockets are different from the ones used in your country you will need a socket converter.
