SUMMIT VENUE

The Summit will be held at the Sapporo Convention Center in Sapporo Hokkaido, Japan.

FLYING TO HOKKAIDO, JAPAN

New Chitose Airport (CTS) is located 2.7 NM (5.0 km; 3.1 mi) south-southeast of Chitose and Tomakomai, Hokkaidō, Japan, serving the Sapporo metropolitan area. By both traffic and land area, it is the largest airport in Hokkaidō.

PASSPORT & TRAVEL VISA

If you are a citizen of one of the over 50 countries with which Japan has a “general visa exemption arrangement”, you need only a valid passport to enter Japan as a “temporary visitor”. Otherwise, you need to obtain a visa before entering the country.

If an invitation letter is needed to assist in your visa application, registered delegates should fill out the Visa Letter Request Form. Your invitation letter will be delivered by email as a PDF file within five business days.

AIRPORT TRANSFER & GETTING AROUND SAPPORO

New Chitose Airport (CTS) is located 3.1 miles (2.7 NM; 5.0 kilometers) south-southeast of Chitose and Tomakomai, Hokkaidō, Japan and is a 35 minute train or 90 minute bus ride to the Sapporo city center.  Public transportation options to and from the New Chitose Airport include Hokkaido Railways or Airport Buses

Three subway lines, a tram line and many bus companies (JR Hokkaido Bus, Hokkaido Chuo Bus and Jotetsu Bus) provide Sapporo with an efficient network of public transportation. The Japan Rail Pass, Hokkaido Rail Pass and Hokkaido Free Pass are valid on local buses operated by JR Hokkaido Bus.

Free shuttle service to/from hotels and the Sapporo Conference Center will be provided for the duration of the event.  Please note, complimentary airport shuttles will not be available this year.

ACCOMMODATION

Sapporo offers a variety of accommodation options with many hotels conveniently located near to the Sapporo Convention Center. At this time, we ask delegates to hold off on booking accommodations until we hear from Japan on transportation details to the Convention Center.

OFFICIAL PREFERRED AIR BOOKING DESK

The ATTA’s official preferred air booking desk is Exito Travel. Registered delegates are eligible for Exito’s exclusive discounts on flights to Japan. An Exito agent will be available on-site during the Summit to assist Exito customers as needed.

PRACTICAL INFORMATION
WEATHER

The weather in Sapporo for the month of September is generally pleasant with the average high temperatures in the 70s°F/20°C and lows in the 50s°F/11°C. Rainfall is high as September is the most wet month of the year – it is best to wear layers and bring a waterproof coat.

WIFI

Free WiFi will be available at the Sapporo Conference Center. Please check with your accommodation provider for WiFi options.

ATTIRE

As with all Adventure Travel World Summit events, the attire is “adventure casual.” This generally means comfortable jeans or trousers with a shirt or fleece, and on occasion you may see a sport jacket or very casual dress. An additional warmer jacket or sweater is recommended.

CURRENCY

The Japanese national currency is the yen, which comes in denominations of 1,000, 5,000, and 10,000 bills. Coins come in 1, 5, 10, 50, 100, and 500 yen denominations.

CONNECTIVITY

The adapters, if needed, for Japan are Type A and B plugs. The plugs in Japan come in various versions, but most common are non-polarized and ungrounded with two pins. (Adapter A plug) Grounded pins come either with three pins or with two pins and a ground wire.(Adapter B plug) The electrical current in Japan is 110 volts, AC 50Hz.

Important notice: The ATTA highly recommends that all Summit delegates purchase travel insurance to provide the level of protection and support you require during your involvement at ATWS and during Pre-Summit Adventures and Day of Adventure activities. The ATTA encourages delegates to consider purchasing comprehensive travel insurance, to include medical and emergency evacuation coverage, with ATTA’s travel insurance partners,World Nomads, Ripcord – powered by Redpoint, and Global Rescue, although such insurance may be purchased from any provider of your choice. By choosing to participate in a Pre-Summit Adventure and/or Day of Adventure tour, you recognize that neither the Adventure Travel Trade Association (ATTA), nor its agents, servants, employees, volunteers, and/or officers, are in any way responsible for any activities conducted by other entities or for the actions/inactions of other entities. All Summit delegates are required to sign ATTA’s [insert title of liability release] prior to participation.
