The Adventure Travel World Summit (ATWS) will take place at the centrally located Clarion Hotel Post in Gothenburg.

SJ, Västtrafik, Öresundståget, Tågab, NSB, and MTR Express are running frequent services to and from the central station in Gothenburg, connecting the city with the Scandinavian capitals Stockholm, Oslo, and Copenhagen. The journey times are around 3 hours from Stockholm, just under 4 hours from Oslo, and 3.5 hours from Copenhagen. The trains from Denmark stop at Copenhagen’s international airport, making it a convenient option for travelers who want to fly there and catch the train to Gothenburg.

The bus terminal Nils Ericson Terminalen is serviced by long-distance and express bus companies like Swebus, Nettbus, and Bus4you. You can easily travel to Gothenburg from major cities in Sweden and throughout Scandinavia. Landvetter (GOT), the international airport, is located 20 kilometers southeast of the city center and offers connections from various destinations in Europe and around the world.

It is easy to get to and from the airport with the shuttle bus service Flygbussarna, and the journey time is just under 30 minutes. Buses leave from right outside the terminal building, and the final stop is the main bus station Nils Ericson Terminalen in central Gothenburg. It is a 4-minute walk from Nils Ericson Terminalen to the venue for the Summit, the Clarion Hotel Post. Visit Sweden and West Sweden highly recommend using this way of transfer as it is the most sustainable way which does not require additional transportation.

Travelers coming from outside Sweden and the European Union must have a valid passport. We strongly encourage you to check the visa requirements for your country or contact your local embassy.

The citizens of these countries need to have visas before entering the Sweden/Schengen area.

For delegates who are citizens of countries that require a visa, the ATTA can provide you with an invitation letter to assist in your visa application. Registered delegates only should fill out the Visa Letter Request Form. Your invitation letter will be delivered by email as a PDF file within five business days.

The ATTA values include a responsibility to minimize travel’s negative impacts and maximize its positive benefits to the environment in its business operations. As an organization that manages global events; education and training; and destination promotion – all of which require significant worldwide travel by staff and industry members – the ATTA recognizes the need to manage our impact on the environment, and the opportunity we have to lead by example. The ATTA is following a Measure, Mitigate, Educate, and Reduce strategy and will partner with industry leaders to understand its total impact and the possibilities to effectively reduce that impact.

Since 2016 the ATTA has offset the carbon emissions of the Adventure Travel World Summit. In 2018 we increased our commitment by offsetting all delegate travel to ATWS Tuscany and all ATTA staff travel for the year. In 2019 we will offset the impacts of AdventureELEVATE, ATWS and all ATTA staff travel for the year. Our intention is to offset all ATTA events and staff travel by 2020.

We recognize we can go further and the are committed to using our experience to educate this expanding industry and act as a facilitator for travel industry members and destinations who are interested in reducing their carbon emissions through our Climate Action Strategic Initiative. This initiative is providing travel companies with climate action education and research along with strategies and practical tools.

Travelandclimate.org is a modified version of a digital platform which was originally designed in 2017-18 as part of a development programme in West Sweden – klimatsmartsemester.se (climate smart vacation). The idea behind the platform is to provide a simple explanation of the climate consequences of different trips. This version is largely tailored to European conditions and travelling in general – not just vacationing. The aim with the platform is to contribute to making travel more sustainable by providing a simple tool and knowledge base which makes it easier for people to choose to travel with a low climate impact.
