Media Application

The Media Application is now closed. Applications will be reviewed with final selections made by the end of April.

The Adventure Travel World Summit (ATWS) is the preeminent opportunity for adventure travel industry professionals to gather from around the world for networking, education and inspiration.

Selected Official Media Delegates will learn about new companies and trends in the adventure tourism space, discover stories from operators and destinations, and form new lasting relationships while experiencing Japan’s unspoiled beauty, traditions, and culture. Immersive adventure activities on Pre-Summit Adventures and the Day of Adventure will give travel media the chance to discover the secrets through adventure and nature-focused experiences.

In the interest of maintaining a healthy dynamic of diverse business interests in the final event delegation, there are a limited number of 30 total Official Media Delegate spots at the Summit, all of which are fully-hosted. Selections for fully-hosted spots will be made from the pool of applications received.

Schedule:

If selected, the entire trip length will vary in duration up to six days prior to the event depending on the final selection of Pre-Summit Adventure tour options (4-5 days in length) plus the travel time from your origin city. Tour options will be made available after applications are selected. The event itself is 20-23 September, with return departures on 24 September, 2021.

Who should apply:

The ATTA and our hosts are interested in hosting media delegates specifically based in (and/or writing for the markets of):

  • United States
  • United Kingdom
  • Germany
  • Italy
  • Spain
  • France
  • Holland

(With some consideration for highly qualified media from Asia, Canada, Latin America, MENA, and other European countries) who specialize in adventure and sustainable travel stories, including:

  • Magazine or Newspaper Staff Writers & Editors — especially from national and regional mainstream lifestyle outlets and/or vertical outlets focusing on travel, outdoor adventure, culture or environment/sustainability (print and digital editions)
  • Digital Publication Writers & Editors — especially from mainstream lifestyle outlets and/or vertical outlets focusing on travel, outdoor adventure or environment/sustainability with national and global reach
  • Freelance Journalists — with a proven record of placing articles in mainstream lifestyle outlets or vertical outlets focusing on travel, outdoor adventure, fitness, culture or environment/sustainability with national and global reach (print and digital)
  • Professional (Career) Bloggers & Influencers — with evidence of regular, current editorial content (i.e. non-sponsored posts) related to adventure travel, outdoor activity, culture or environmental/sustainability issues with a large, dedicated and engaged following interested in adventure travel-related content
  • Photojournalists / Videographers — editorial in nature who regularly document or film content to accompany their own outdoor and adventure travel stories
  • Broadcast Journalists — producers whose content is broadcast on TV or radio and is related to the adventure travel or outdoor industry (this event is not an ideal fit for strictly on-camera talent due to very limited filming opportunities)

Publishers, advertising sales representatives, personal or hobby bloggers, PR agency representatives, marketing agencies/content developers, and film/video producers are not eligible to apply as an official media delegate. Anyone with an interest in the adventure travel industry may pay to attend as a regular event delegate.

Local Media:

Half-day passes may be available for local television, radio or newspaper representatives to access a local press conference and the event opening session.

Role and expectations at the Summit if your application is selected:

All Official Media Delegates are expected to be “working media,” meaning whether a freelance journalist, magazine editor, photojournalist, or professional blogger and influencer, you will be actively looking for ways to cover the host destination, the adventure travel industry, and attending delegate’s destinations and products.

In addition, all selected Official Media Delegates are:

  • Required to attend media-specific sessions during the event, designed to network with other delegates in facilitated and unfacilitated formats to connect traditional media with story ideas, and influencers and bloggers with potential content partners.
  • Expected to attend the FULL event (Day of Adventure and all conference days, no early departures).

HOSTED Official Media Delegates receive: complimentary event registration (including the Day of Adventure), accommodations during the event, economy round-trip air, ground transfers, and a multi-day Pre-Summit Adventure tour with a local tour operator. Hosted media are required to participate in an adventure tour, and are expected to be researching the experience for potential story coverage, and active on social media using the assigned event hashtags. We track all media results from the event.

ABOUT THE SELECTION PROCESS:

  • Hosted media selections will be made from the pool of applications received.
  • All applications will be considered, reviewed, and selected with the destination partner.
  • After initial evaluation, criteria used in the final hosted curation and selection includes:
    • Representation from the specific countries listed above (limited per country).
    • A diverse representation of types of media narratives/specialties/topics covered, and outlets, with a higher ratio of traditional media to influencers & bloggers.
    • A mix of individuals new to ATTA events with prior ATTA event media delegates.
  • Due to the large quantity of applications typically received for a limited number of spots, not all qualified applicants will be selected.
  • You will receive an email from the ATTA informing you of the status of your application.
  • More questions? See our Official Media at ATTA Events FAQs

A limited number of discount 2021 ATWS official media spots may be available to ATTA Adventure Media Members not selected for fully-hosted spots.

Applications will be reviewed in March with final selections made by the start of April.

Applications open 19 January 2021 and close 12 February 2021
